The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) has named Alliance For Transportation Innovation (ATI21) CEO and President Paul Brubaker to its advisory board.

“With your expertise of policy and management experience focused on deploying innovative technologies in government and industry, you would be an excellent fit to our Board,” wrote IATR President and Advisory Board Chair Matthew W. Daus, Esq., in an official invitation.

Founded in 1988, IATRĀ is a growing peer group of taxi, limousine and for-hire transportation regulators, dedicated to improving the practice of licensing, enforcement and administration of for-hire transportation through the sharing of information and resources.

“IATR is a tremendously influential organization, and I’m honored to be asked to join its Advisory Board,” Brubaker said. “The association’s members are exactly the types of stakeholders that ATR21 seeks to form stronger ties with as we continue to support the advancement of technology that boosts safer, more efficient transportation.”

Brubaker’s appointment furthers an already strong relationship between the two organizations. Last month, Brubaker addressed delegates at IATR’s annual conference in Austin, Texas, where he urged regulators to embrace a broad view when considering rules for emerging technologies, notably autonomous vehicles (AVs).

He pointed to the convergence of seemingly disparate technologies, such as 5G connectivity, faster computing power, and the increasing number of sensors on vehicles and embedded in infrastructure, as areas that transportation regulators must recognize as they craft regulations to accomodate AVs.

“Thinking outside the box is cliche, so what we’re advocating is for you to expand your box,” Brubaker said. “Try to break down the silos of excellence that exist within government agencies. These silos reflect how we fund, but not how we move.”
