Here is an interesting article suggesting that self-driving will require separate infrastructure.  Perhaps the bigger point is the need to segregate self-driving vehicles from non-self driving vehicles much like horses, with the exception of Amish country, are largely relegated to farms, trails, steeplechase courses, and racetracks.   Likewise, perhaps there is a future where if you want to “drive” you would go to a segregated roadway and have at it.  Where this author get’s it completely wrong however is referring to the “autopilot” enabled Tesla as self-driving.  It is no such thing.  Autopilot is an driver assist tool and is not meant to enable self-driving.  Disturbingly, the press has repeatedly gotten this wrong.
